Support Our New Commission: Robin Haigh’s TEARFLOODS: Homage to Miyazaki

Crouch End Festival Chorus is excited to announce a major new commission from acclaimed composer Robin Haigh: TEARFLOODS: Homage to Miyazaki. This ambitious work for chorus and amplified ensemble will premiere at Alexandra Palace Theatre in April 2026, forming the centrepiece of a concert where the commission explores the ocean’s past, present, and imagined future.

About the Commission

TEARFLOODS: Homage to Miyazaki will draw on themes of the sea, science fiction, futurology, and climate change. Robin Haigh, described as “completely refreshing” and “remarkably discombobulating”, is known for his innovative approach and distinctive musical voice. The piece will blend influences from metal, electronica, pop, jazz, experimental music, and film scores, offering a fresh perspective on the tradition of sea-inspired music.

Haigh’s new work will feature a wordless chorus alongside an amplified ensemble - including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, harp, percussion, electric guitar, sampling keyboard, and strings - creating an immersive sound world that balances accessibility with artistic depth.

“A poignant reflection on the beauty and majesty of a post-human sea-world. Not a preachy piece about climate change - an honest artistic response to the reality of it. A Sea Symphony for the 21st century.”
