The choir for you

There's always a great variety of music going on at Crouch End Festival Chorus, and in 2017 there really has been something for everyone. We launched our Chandos Records CD of Bach's St John Passion with a wonderful concert at St John's Smith Square, and the CD has received glowing reviews from critics and public alike. We've also tackled Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky - which we sang in our own concert and as part of a BBC film music extravaganza at the Royal Festival Hall.

Last year, we sent singers to support major tours by our patrons Noel Gallagher, Hans Zimmer and Ennio Morricone, and that work is continuing this year, with further contributions to the Hans Zimmer Live tour and a booking to sing with another patron, Sir Ray Davies, at the Proms in the Park concert in September 2017. Not only this, but we've had a highly successful reprise of our choral jazz commission Lanksy: The Mob's Money Man by Roland Perrin, and we've been back at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall. The only thing we're missing is you!

We always welcome approaches from singers seeking to join the choir, and right now we're particularly after tenors and basses to expand the pool of talent in our lower voice sections.

If you're a tenor or bass with a good voice who can read music, you could join our ranks - and could soon find yourself with some amazing musical opportunities. Not to mention our great social scene...

How it all works

Crouch End Festival Chorus is an amateur choir with professional standards. We are fortunate to be hired for many exciting recording and performance engagements each year, but our own concerts are closest to our hearts - not least because we all take part in those (external engagements usually require a smaller group).

For our own promotions, all 150 of us perform a programme of classical music every few months at major London venues, and our audiences know to expect the best from us: spot-on tuning, a wide dynamic range and crystal clear lyrics. Another special feature of CEFC concerts is our commitment to supporting new music by British-based composers, so there's always something fresh in the pipeline for our singers to try, as well as the opportunity to learn traditional works from the choral canon.

To achieve our excellent results, we get stuck in to the music every Friday evening at our rehearsals in Muswell Hill, fuelled by cake from our volunteer baking team. Our conductor David Temple is a stickler for high standards, but he's also known for his flashes of humour and fast-paced rehearsals, and he's guaranteed to get us sounding great by the end of the evening.

Crouch End Festival Chorus is always looking for good singers, and we hold auditions throughout the year. The first step is to email us at newmembers@cefc.org.uk, to book your place as a guest at one of our Friday rehearsals in Muswell Hill.

We also hold periodical open rehearsals, at which all singers are welcome; these will be advertised on this website as they come up. If, after attending as a guest, you then decide you would definitely like to join the choir, you should download and complete the application form on the audition information page and send it to the address given, or hand it to our recruitment officer at one of your trial rehearsals.

You will be invited to take an audition either on a Friday evening before the rehearsal or, if we have several applicants at once, on a different evening in Muswell Hill. There's more about this on the audition information page, and full details will be given to you when you apply to join.
