Crouch End Festival Chorus
Mike Henry – narrator
Daniella Ganeva and Graham Instrall – percussion
David Temple – conductor

A sumptuous mix of music ranging from the 16th to the 21st centuries.

The centrepiece of the concert is Orlando Gough’s Ice, written to mark  the centenary of the first expedition to the North Pole.  The libretto is based on the diary of Matthew Henson, a black American who accompanied Robert Peary, the first person to reach the Pole, on the trip.  Readings from the diary are interspersed with dramatic 16-part choral movements full of rhythmic virtuosity, accompanied by vibraphones.

Also featured are:
Grieg - Ave Maris Stella  |  Bruckner - Os Justi; Ave Maria
Palestrina  - Tu es Petrus; Sicut cervus; Exsultate Deo  | John Tavener - Hymn to the Mother of God
David Bedford - The Grace of Love  |  James MacMillan - The Gallant Weaver
