The War Requiem is Britten’s opus number 66.
The piece was mostly composed in 1961 and finished in 1962.
The work is scored for soprano, tenor and baritone soloists, chorus, boys’ choir, organ, and two orchestras (a full orchestra and a chamber orchestra).
Traditional Latin texts are interspersed throughout the work with settings of Wilfred Owen poems.
It has a duration of approximately 85 minutes.
